On the list of things I’ll never forget
is the night I felt
your soul getting wet.
We spoke in shivers and traveled in trance;
a dreaming duet,
a stellar dance.
You saw it all that misty night
and not with eyes,
they’re too finite.
You saw more than they could see:
the bareness of me,
the you and me.
The trance was deeper than words could reach.
Like a secret fetish,
a hidden wish.
I dove with you through those seaweeds,
sharks and dolphins and velvet starfish.
We dove until we grew our fins,
like ocean life we developed gills,
too besotted to remember
the ugly land lurks,
waits and kills.
